The UK environment secretary has announced the government’s panel of food policy advisors, made up of experts from academia, farming, retail, community food initiatives, and consumer groups.

Hilary Benn previously announced that the Council of Food Policy Advisors would be chaired by Dame Suzi Leather.

“We need to ensure that our food supply in future continues to be secure and sustainable. That’s why I’ve set up this new team of advisers who will look at food from farm to fork,” said Benn.

The members are expected to meet once a month in London, as well as carry out fact finding missions and have regional meetings. The members are: Sir Don Curry, Sue Davies MBE, Professor Elizabeth Dowler, Professor Gareth Edwards-Jones, Iain Ferguson CBE, Paul Kelly, Professor Tim Lang, Guy McCracken, Claire Pritchard, Dame Fiona Reynolds, Geetie Singh, Tim Smith, and Stefan Tangermann.
More appointments are expected to be made, but appointments are in a personal capacity; the members are not representing any sector, company or organisation.
