As the popularity of soy products gains pace Israeli soy ingredients company Solbar Plant Extracts announced this week that it has launched a new, highly soluble soy isoflavone for functional beverages, meal replacement and supplement powders.
The company claims that the new product, called Solgen 10/S, combines health benefits with high solubility and bland taste.
Gary Brenner, Marketing Director at Solbar Plant Extracts, said: "It can be used to fortify a variety of functional beverages, including fruit juices, soy milks and instant powders. A typical formulation using Solgen 10/S would provide a daily intake of 20-30 mg."
Soy isoflavones are more commonly defined as "selective estrogen receptor modulators" (SERMs). They are less potent than HRT (hormone replacement therapy), but, Solbar claims in a statement, they have greater tissue-selectivity. The phyto-estrogens are believed to reduce total and LDL-cholesterol (the 'bad' cholesterol), and elevate HDL-cholesterol (the 'good' cholesterol). There is also evidence to suggest that SERMs alleviate menopausal symptoms, prevent bone loss while building new bone cells.
SPE isoflavones from Solbar, manufactured from non-GMO identity preserved soybeans, are affirmed by a panel of expert scientists to be generally recognized as safe (GRAS). The report can be made available on request.
