The voice of the UK’s food and drink sector has expressed support for the relatively small rise in the UK minimum wage, of 1.2 per cent, saying it will help ensure the food and drink sector remains competitive.

The UK’s low pay commission has announced an increase from 5.73 per hour to 5.80 per hour, which the Food and Drink Federation has called “moderate”.

“In the past we have seen the minimum wage rise faster than average earnings and inflation, so the move to a more prudent approach makes a lot of sense at this time,” said Angela Coleshill, the FDF’s HR Director.

The FDF has been lobbying the Low Pay Commission directly this year.
