GM linseed (also called flax) of the FP967 or CDC Triffic variety is not approved in Europe – but it has been reported in cereal and bakery products in Germany. The variety was developed in Canada, at the University of Saskatchewan – and Canada supplies around half of the EU’s linseed needs.
The commercial testing lab says its approved test is specific to linseed containing products like bread and batter mixes, and it has a detection limit of 0.01 per cent. Turnaround time is said to be five days.
