The American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC) this week announced the recipients of its 2003 honorary awards to be presented at the group's annual meeting later this month in Portland.
In recognition for 'superior contributions to fundamental starch science' French researcher Alain Buleon will receive the 2003 Alsberg-French-Schoch Lectureship award. Buleon has been a member of the French National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) since 1979, serving as director of the Department of Physicochemistry of the Macromolecules from 1992 to 2002.
The 2003 Thomas Burr Osborne Medal, established in 1962, will go to Olie Anderson in recognition for 'contributions in the field of cereal chemistry.' Anderson is a research leader for the Genomics and Gene Discovery Research Unit at the US government's Agricultural Research Service.
Randy Wehling, assistant professor in food science at the University of Nebraska, will receive the 2003 AACC Excellence in Teaching Award.
In recognition for a 'member's outstanding contribution to cereal science and technology' Robert Cracknell, Barry McCleary, and Mark M. Stearns have all been named AACC Fellows.
Cracknell, currently works at AWB Limited, where he is involved in Australian wheat quality improvement. McCleary is co-founder of Ireland-based Megazyme International, which develops and supplies diagnostic test kits and reagents for the cereals, food, feed, and fermentation industries. Stearns is the director of regulatory and research services for Interstate Brands Corporation.
