Carlsberg, the Danish brewer, announced last week a friendly takeover bid for Albani Brewery. The brewing giant offered DKr378m ($46m) for the company. But the bid may confront problems from Denmark's competition authority. If the takeover is completed Carlsberg's share of the domestic beer market would increase from about 70 per cent to 80 per cent and its soft drinks market share from 65 per cent to 70 per cent. Carlsberg is in discussions with the competition authority to find a solution.
