The Colombian plant of Boehringer Ingelheim, the German pharmaceutical group, has received permission to export to Europe. It intends to export US$ 9.6m worth of products from Colombia in 2001, up by US$ 0.2m on 2000 when it supplied traditional markets such as Venezuela and Equador, Chile and Peru.
Boehringer has been operating in Colombia for over 40 years and will open a water treatment plant in Colombia next month aimed at improving its environmental management. On its existing production plant, the company has invested US$ 10m since 1995.
