The Competition Commission, the British antitrust authority, this month approved the merger of the vitamins activities of BASF AG, the German chemical group, and of Takeda Chemical Industries Ltd., the Japanese chemical group.
The approval procedure for the acquisition of Takeda's vitamins business outside Japan is now completed worldwide. In Japan, BASF and Takeda have a cooperation agreement that was also approved at the end of 2000.
BASF plans to ensure cost and technology leadership in the vitamin business area with a Euro600m capital expenditures program.
