Ajinomoto win damages from ADM

Ajinomoto Co. announced last week that it has won damages in a long-running lawsuit against the U.S. agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland Co. for infringement of a patent on the production of the amino acidthreonine, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported this weekend. The U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a ruling issued in 1998 by a federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, that found that ADM had infringed upon the patent, Ajinomoto said. The appellate court has ordered ADM to pay Ajinomoto $1.23 for every kilogram of threonine sold by ADM from May 1, 1993 to March 13, 1998.
