UK distributor Salutivia has invested in a new food and nutrition laboratory to ensure product innovation - "a key factor to wealth creation during the Brexit years", it says.

The distributor, based in Worcestershire in the UK, works with multinationals such as Rousselot, Firmenich and Stevial as well as health and nutrition ingredient suppliers Prolactal and The Wright Group.

Following the £60,000 (€60,000) investment, Salutivia’s application scientists expect to complete around 50 finished consumer products a year using ingredients from its supplier partners.

“This strategic investment in commercially relevant new product development (NPD) is combined with leading food and nutrition ingredients and best-in-class services to forge ultra-dynamic partnerships with customers and supplier partners,” said the firm’s managing director, Steven Cartlidge.

“Providing innovative yet practical recipes to keep our customers at the leading edge of global capability will be a key factor to wealth creation during the Brexit years.”

The NPD service is for customers in the UK and Ireland only but the distributor partners with Firmalis and Innotaste to provide the same facilities in mainland Europe.

Key areas of focus will be developing applications for Firmenich’s flavour technologies for sugar reduction in beverages, bakery, dairy and confectionery, it said. “Novel breakthroughs in flavour release technology and improved flavour delivery systems are enhancing the enjoyment for protein intake in the sports nutrition sector.”
