The Institute of Food Research (IFR) has become Quadram Institute Bioscience.

The multi-million food and health research centre home for the Quadram Institute will be completed by mid-2018.

The Quadram Institute will work on food science, gut biology and health.

It will bring together researchers from the IFR, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) and the University of East Anglia, as well as NNUH’s regional gastrointestinal endoscopy unit.

The institute is being funded by the above partners and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

It will have capacity for 300 research staff with a further 100 supporting one of Europe’s largest endoscopy facilities.

Prof Ian Charles, who will lead the Quadram Institute, said: “Combining this level of expertise under one roof will bring about a new level of collaboration to achieve our collective mission to develop solutions to worldwide challenges in human health, food and disease.

“We are developing a world-leading facility for research across our four themes of the gut, healthy aging, food innovation and food safety.”
