According to a recent market report, more than half of the consumer packaged goods (CPG) merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in 2012 involved food-based companies.

In “Annual Deal Report: Consumer Packaged Goods,” business research firm Reports n Reports profiles the nature of M&A activity in the global market during 2012. The report relates that the food segment was the most active in terms of deal volume recording 1,199 deals, representing 55.1 percent of the deals.

The report states that the worth of the reported food-segment M&A deals comprised a total value of $112 billion USD. The figure represented 37.2 of the total deal value in the CPG industry.
